15.4 million days lost at work due to stress.
I’ve just managed to squeeze in a little break with my other half to Cornwall for three days.
Okay, that’s not long but we’re sneaking in another little week with the children in about a month. Recharging the batteries feels all the more important this year.
Whilst we were away it gave me a little time for reflection and make sure I shuffle the priority list in the correct order again – which can so easily get awry without noticing.
The rest of the OFEX team are in the throws of the holiday season (we have to force James to have an annual holiday around his birthday each year!).
Hopefully, despite the likelihood of our “staycations” being rather crowded this year, I’m hoping everyone will come back refreshed and raring to go for Q4.
It is so easy to forget why we do what we do.
How do you measure success?
Turnover? Profitability? Number of orders? Market share? Or…
Making choices based on a set of values.
I read The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann on holiday.
It really resonated with me. It smashes the old concept of success from being a Go-Getter to adopting a Go-Giver attitude in life which includes, customers, suppliers, colleagues and of course family and friends.
I remember my old boss when I was working in banking saying “Sam you’ll never make it to the top as you’re not ruthless enough”.
This newly emerging value based business world is much more my cup of tea! It isn’t about dog-eat-dog anymore. More and more customers and prospects I meet are clearly embracing this too.
For me, professional success is creating jobs and being able to contribute back to society; from a personal standpoint it is first and foremost about making sure I have as much quality time with those I love.
That *should* de-stresses us all!
Happy holidays.
Sam.
