6 ways to handle burnout in your business and getting back stronger than ever

What is Burnout? Are you experiencing it right now? Don’t worry, we all do because no one is immune to burnout, especially those who run their own business. Feeling overworked and stressed out is inevitable at some point, but it’s how you deal with it that makes all the difference. Every business owner needs to find ways to get out of a slump or even avoid being in one altogether.

To be perfectly honest, almost every business owner goes through a period of burnout. You’ve put all your time and effort into your business, but eventually, you hit a wall. In this blog post, we’ll outline some tips for handling burnout and getting back on track. So if you’re feeling a little burned out lately, read on for inspiration!

Know the signs of burnout

When you feel like you’re not meeting your goals and you don’t care about what you do anymore, that’s a huge red flag waving at you for attention that you need to act on. More so when your relationships with friends and family have become strained because of your constant negativity. Stop! Notice these signs and know that these may be symptoms of you having burnout.

Take time for yourself

This may be the most underrated advice because, for most people, focusing on looking after other people’s needs over taking care of oneself has been the standard. A lot of people feel guilty for putting themselves first. But truth be told, valuing your self-worth does not make you a bad and selfish person. Think about this when you push yourself to work more than 40 hours a week.

Take at least one day off each week and set boundaries with your clients by making a plan on how you will spend your free time. Use your lunch break to take a walk outside or go, take a nap, shop or even go for a run. Use this time to relax and recharge. Schedule downtime into your schedule, such as reading a book or taking a bath. Listen to music that makes you happy – it can be soothing to calm you down when stressed out. Also, one thing that can really help is to get rid of clutter around the house, including old clothes, shoes, and books. This can be truly life-changing!

Get enough sleep

Try to go to bed by 9 or 10 pm and get up by 7 am or even earlier. Set a regular sleep schedule and create a bedtime routine that includes relaxing activities like reading or listening to music. Avoid using electronics before bed, including TV and computers. Exercise regularly because it can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Drink lots of fluids during the day so you don’t wake up thirsty in the middle of the night and get enough sunlight during the day so your body knows when it’s time for bed.

Practice mindfulness meditation or yoga regularly

Mindfulness meditation is a practice of being present in the moment. Yoga is a physical and mental exercise that can be done at home or in a studio. Both practices are beneficial for your mental health, reducing stress levels and anxiety, as well as improving concentration skills. Try to meditate or do yoga every day if possible – it will help you feel calmer and more relaxed, giving you more energy throughout the day. These exercises have been shown to reduce blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels, which reduces your risk for heart disease. If you’re new to these practices start with short periods of time like 5-10 minutes per day then gradually increase up to 15-20 minutes per session.

Eat healthy foods that will give you energy instead of sugar highs that will only leave you feeling worse later on

Avoid processed and fast food and eat a balanced breakfast, lunch, and dinner with plenty of vegetables. Drink lots of water throughout the day to help you stay hydrated. Add ginger or turmeric to your meals for an extra boost of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Be mindful about what you’re eating and don’t eat while watching TV or on the computer. Furthermore, please put down your phone while eating so that you can fully enjoy your meal. Supplement with vitamins if needed but it’s important to be mindful about getting all the nutrients you need from whole foods rather than relying solely on supplements.

Always aim to reduce stress in your life

Do things like taking walks outside or getting massages when possible. You can also do hobbies you love or have forgotten to do because you thought you had no time to do them. Blocking and scheduling your day can extremely help in spending at least 10-20 minutes just doing what you love like dancing, singing, cooking, or reading a book.
